When we have traumatic (anything less than nurturing) experiences in our childhood and it is not resolved, a certain part of our psyche stays at that age. When we are then triggered by something in the present that reminds us of that past event, we can find ourselves thinking and behaving like we did as a child – feeling overwhelmed, anxious, disempowered and unresourceful.
